DIY Paint - Dipped Baskets

Hello, how is your week going? I'm getting close to spring break from work and can't wait! It's so nice to have a change of scenery for a week, even though I'm not going out of town or anything. I feel so lucky that I have a job with some breaks built in-- it really allows you to recharge your batteries and go back rested and refreshed!

I'm posting today with a super easy DIY project for the entryway part of my living room. I created 2 DIY paint dipped baskets to sit on the shelf above my desk in the living room.
This area tends to be a catch-all for shoes (we have a shoe cabinet here), bills, purses, cords, coupons, receipts and miscellaneous office supplies. I bought a few basic baskets from Ikea last year in attempt to corral these items. You can see by the pictures below that the supplies were getting a little out of control. Once it got to the point that I couldn't find things I was looking for, I knew I had to change things up.
I emptied out the baskets.
I taped off the top part of the baskets with painter's tape.

Then I went outside and spray painted the baskets with this great navy blue color.
It took 2 coats and less than 10 minutes of actual work and they were finished!
I let the baskets dry and then took off the tape. Done!
I put them back on the shelf and am loving how they look!
Ahh, much better already! (Nevermind that you can see the pile of junk on my dining room table. It will find a home eventually, right?)
I think the pop of color is great. It picks up on the navy blue in the cover for the desk chair, and also with the polka dot curtains in the dining room.
These fun baskets make a much better statement when you walk in the front door than the pile of junk that was there previously.

I love the paint dipped look, and these baskets were a cheap and easy way to try out that trend without investing a lot of time or energy. Plus I like that they add a little color in addition to the functionality of hiding my junk. What do you think-- do you like paint - dipped items? Do you think this trend will stay around for a while?

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great weekend!
